ASSET PROTECTION SPECIALIST
The Asset Protection Specialist protects store assets, employees, and customers within an assigned retail location. Operating at the store level, this position prevents, detects, and deters loss through floor observation, CCTV surveillance, and investigative controls. The specialist identifies safety hazards, supports store leadership, and ensures compliance with state laws and company policies regarding shoplifting apprehensions, vendor receiving, and de-escalation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors store activity primarily through floor observation to identify suspicious behavior, detect theft and maintain a secure environment, with the capacity for visible asset protection as needed.
- Monitors high-risk areas, store operations, and physical building security to identify operational loss risks, and security vulnerabilities.
- Conducts live and recorded video surveillance using store camera systems to document and preserve evidence of theft, fraud, safety incidents, and policy violations.
- Conducts shoplifting apprehensions and detentions in strict compliance with state laws, merchant privilege guidelines, and company policy.
- Partners with store leadership during daily operations, communicating loss prevention observations and assisting with front-end controls.
- Monitors receiving procedures and backroom stock management to ensure vendor accuracy and prevent transit loss.
- Conducts regular store safety audits, identifying physical hazards, slip/trip risks, and reporting safety policy non-compliance to store management.
- Completes detailed, objective incident reports and maintains case files for all theft incidents, safety accidents, or policy violations.
- Coordinates with local law enforcement during on-site incidents, providing evidence, security footage, and accurate documentation as directed by the District Director.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in retail loss prevention, asset protection, customer service, or security operations (grocery/supermarket experience preferred).
- Ability to obtain any required asset protection certification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of basic state laws regarding merchant rights, citizen's arrest, and shoplifting detentions.
- Strong verbal communication and de-escalation skills to resolve conflict calmly and professionally.
- High level of integrity, professional boundaries, and discretion when handling sensitive store information.
- Basic computer proficiency for submitting written incident reports and reviewing security camera footage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND TRAVEL
- Requires regional travel across designated store locations in the assigned district.
- Requires alternating between standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods to monitor sales floors, conduct seated CCTV surveillance, perform administrative reporting, and execute stationary investigative interviews.
- Requires ability to occasionally respond quickly to physical emergencies or detentions within legal and policy parameters.
