Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Manage the loading and unloading of freight, including specialized cargo such as hazardous materials, dangerous goods, flatbed loads, tankers, or roll-off trucks
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimal routes for timely deliveries while maintaining awareness of traffic conditions and route changes
- Transport a variety of cargo types including refrigerated trailers, automobile transportation units, freight containers, or tanker loads
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with hazardous materials regulations during transport
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure safety standards are met
- Load and secure cargo using appropriate manual handling techniques or equipment like forklifts when necessary
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports in compliance with FMCSA regulations
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving across long distances or regional routes
- Hands-on experience with truck loading and unloading procedures for various cargo types including freight, hazardous materials, or specialty loads
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker operations, or dump trucks is highly desirable
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling protocols and safety procedures related to dangerous goods and hazardous materials regulations
- Demonstrated understanding of DOT regulations regarding driver hours-of-service (HOS), vehicle inspections, and safety compliance
- Experience using GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time traffic updates
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the specific cargo transported (e.g., Hazmat endorsement)
