SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Cashier/Retail Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while operating the cash register and serving as the primary point of contact for customers. This position oversees front-end operations, accurately processes sales transactions, maintains an organized checkout area, and helps create a welcoming shopping experience. When customer traffic allows, the Cashier supports all areas of the Thrift Store by assisting with merchandising, stocking, sales floor recovery, customer assistance, and other operational needs to ensure an efficient, clean, and profitable store.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cashiering (Primary Responsibility)

Welcome and assist customers in a friendly, professional manner.

Accurately process cash, credit card, and other payment transactions.

Balance and reconcile cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.

Maintain adequate register supplies, shopping bags, receipt paper, and ministry brochures.

Answer customer questions regarding merchandise, store policies, donations, and promotions.

Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and fully stocked.

Monitor the front entrance and notify management of any safety or security concerns.
Store Operations (Secondary Responsibility)

Assist customers throughout the sales floor as needed.

Recover and straighten merchandise throughout the store to maintain an attractive shopping environment.

Restock merchandise, refill displays, and rotate inventory.

Assist with furniture, clothing, novelty items, or household goods as assigned.

Keep shopping carts organized and available for customers.

Assist with opening and closing procedures.
-
Support loss prevention efforts by remaining alert to suspicious activity.

Assist with special sales, seasonal displays, and promotional events.

Cross-train in all areas of the thrift store to provide coverage during employee absences or busy periods.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Customer Service

Exhibit a courteous and friendly attitude, offering excellent customer service.

Maintain ample level of supplies, receipts, etc. for store operation.

Maintain a clean, organized and appealing appearance to the store.

Greet every customer warmly and create a welcoming, inclusive shopping environment

Provide friendly, helpful assistance with purchases, donations, and general inquiries

Actively engage with customers to enhance their shopping experience and support store mission

Handle transactions accurately and efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude

Resolve customer concerns or direct them to a supervisor when needed

Represent the organization’s values through professional and courteous interactions
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required
-
6+ months retail/merchandising experience preferred
-
6+ months cashier/cash handling experience required.
-
Clover register experience preferred.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Committed Christian who regularly attends a Bible believing and teaching church.

Able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry that ministers to the addicted, poor, and homeless.

Effective problem solver with regard to people and things, able to offer effective solutions while remaining calm, respectful and compassionate.

Good cash handling skills, high degree of accuracy and able to handle reconciliation responsibilities as assigned.

Safety conscious with a strong knowledge of retail operation and merchandising.

Works well with others, able to teach and train “on the job” while completing required duties.

Excellent manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination

Able to work with people in varied circumstances related to addiction; including recovery and mental illness and to treat individuals with dignity and respect in all situations.

Good organizational skills.

Visual merchandising experience is a plus.

Must be honest, have integrity and a strong work ethic.

Valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation.
