Position Summary
The Activities Assistant supports the planning, organization, and implementation of recreational, therapeutic, educational, social, and spiritual programs for residents throughout the community. This role plays an important part in enriching residents’ quality of life by promoting engagement, socialization, creativity, and overall well-being.
The ideal candidate is positive, dependable, patient, and enthusiastic about working with older adults in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Engagement & Activity Programming
- Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting group and individual activities for residents
- Support recreational, social, educational, therapeutic, and spiritual programming
- Encourage resident participation and foster meaningful engagement
- Lead one-on-one, small group, and large group activities
- Motivate residents who may be hesitant or unable to participate independently
- Help prepare monthly activity calendars and contribute creative program ideas
- Assist with decorating bulletin boards and maintaining daily activity displays
Program Support & Operations
- Prepare activity rooms, supplies, and equipment prior to programs and clean up afterward
- Assist with field trips, outings, and special events
- Help transport residents to and from activities as needed
- Assist residents with televisions, remotes, batteries, and related needs
- Maintain activity participation records and required documentation
Resident Care & Communication
- Build positive and respectful relationships with residents, families, team members, and volunteers
- Promote resident dignity, independence, and resident rights at all times
- Work collaboratively with other departments to support resident needs
- Assist with care planning and communicate resident participation and progress appropriately
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized activity environment
- Follow all infection control, safety, HIPAA, and compliance guidelines
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and mandatory training programs
- Adhere to all Dunwoody Village policies and procedures
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Positive attitude, patience, creativity, and enthusiasm
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Genuine compassion for and respect toward older adults
Preferred
- Previous experience in activities, recreation, senior living, healthcare, or long-term care
- Experience leading group activities, crafts, music, games, or creative programming
- Experience working with older adults or individuals with physical or cognitive challenges
Physical Requirements
This position may require:
- Standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, kneeling, and assisting residents throughout the shift
- Pushing wheelchairs, carts, and activity equipment
- Assisting residents during outings and programs
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time and Part-time opportunities available
- Day, evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required
- Fast-paced senior living environment
