La Farine Pâtisserie et Café is an artisan bakery on the Upper West Side focused on producing high-quality breads and pastries daily. We operate a fast-paced, production-driven kitchen where consistency, efficiency, and attention to detail are essential.
We are looking for reliable and disciplined individuals who take their work seriously and can perform in a demanding kitchen environment. This is not a casual baking role—this position requires physical stamina, focus, and the ability to execute repetitive tasks with precision over long shifts, often starting early in the morning.
As an Artisan Baker, you will be responsible for producing breads and laminated products according to established recipes and standards. This includes mixing, shaping, proofing, baking, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. You will be expected to follow systems, respect production schedules, and work as part of a team to meet daily volume requirements.
Consistency is critical. Every product must meet the same standard every day, regardless of volume or time pressure. Attention to detail, cleanliness, and adherence to food safety practices are non-negotiable.

Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude with all team members at all times
- Execute all stages of production, including scaling, mixing, laminating, shaping, proofing, and baking
- Follow recipes, production schedules, and systems precisely to ensure consistency across all products
- Work efficiently to meet daily production targets without compromising quality
- Monitor product quality at every stage and communicate any issues immediately
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with NYC health regulations
- Support overall kitchen operations, including cleaning, organizing, and restocking as needed
- Follow direction from the Head Baker and leadership team; adapt quickly to changes in production needs
- Take ownership of your station and contribute to a disciplined, team-oriented kitchen environment
Skills & Requirements:
- Food Protection Certificate (required; can be obtained after hiring)
- Hands-on experience with bread and/or laminated dough production preferred
- Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in repetitive tasks
- Physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting 50+ lbs
- Punctual, reliable, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Able to take feedback and maintain performance under pressure
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Availability for early mornings, weekends, and holidays is required
- Must be at least 18 years old
Schedule:
- Early morning shifts (typically starting between 4:00 AM – 5:00 AM) or Afternoon shifts (depending on station assignment)
- 5 days per week, including weekends (required)
Compensation & Benefits:
- $18–$20/hour starting rate, based on experience and Food Protection Certificate status
- Performance evaluations every 3 months with potential wage increases based on demonstrated performance
- Paid Time Off (full-time employees)
Compensation is aligned with experience and ability to meet the role’s expectations. Candidates with less experience may start at the lower end of the range with clear opportunity for growth.
