Shamrock Group is an established Minneapolis-based manufacturing, distribution, and service company with more than 80 years of history. Under new ownership, Shamrock is entering a high-growth period focused on acquisitions, stronger financial systems, and scalable processes.
This role will also support KBI, a related operating company with its own separate books and financial reporting. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting and reporting across both organizations while keeping each company’s financial activity properly separated.
We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on Controller who can take ownership of the accounting function and work directly with the CFO.
The Role
This is currently a stand-alone Controller position with no junior accounting support. We need someone who can personally manage the accounting work, not simply oversee outside resources or advise others on how it should be done.
The Controller will manage the financial reporting and accounting activities for both Shamrock Group and KBI, each with separate books, while also supporting multi-entity reporting, consolidations, process improvements, and future acquisitions.
You should be comfortable digging into the general ledger, researching accounting issues, building reports from scratch, and independently determining how to move from a problem to a solution.
Key Responsibilities
- Own accounting and financial reporting for both Shamrock Group and KBI.
- Maintain accurate and separate books for each organization.
- Independently lead month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and adjusting entries.
- Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting.
- Manage multi-entity consolidations and intercompany activity.
- Build financial and operational reports from scratch.
- Analyze financial results and explain variances to the CFO and leadership.
- Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial planning.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation.
- Work within Acumatica and other internal ERP systems to improve reporting and data integrity.
- Support M&A due diligence and accounting integration of acquired businesses.
- Coordinate external audits, tax reporting, and third-party accounting requirements.
- Identify accounting or reporting issues and independently research and implement solutions.
- Help build scalable accounting processes as both organizations continue to grow.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a strong preference for an Accounting degree.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- At least 5 years in a senior accounting, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, Audit Manager, or similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Significant hands-on experience owning month-end and year-end close.
- Strong experience with journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, account analysis, and general ledger accounting.
- Experience managing accounting for multiple companies, entities, or separate sets of books.
- Experience preparing and consolidating financial statements across multiple entities.
- Ability to build financial reports and supporting schedules from the ground up.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working within ERP systems.
- Ability to independently research and resolve accounting issues.
- Ability to clearly explain accounting decisions, methodology, and financial results.
Preferred Experience
- Active CPA license.
- Big Four, former Big Five, regional, or other public accounting experience.
- Public accounting audit experience.
- Acumatica experience.
- M&A due diligence or post-acquisition integration experience.
- ERP implementation or financial-system integration experience.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, service, or another operationally complex organization.
- Experience working in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, or acquisition-focused business.
