Job Overview
Join our team as a Youth Development Professional - Program Area Coordinator (part-time), where you will support the delivery of engaging and structured programming for youth ages 7–17 at our new Westside satellite location. Under the direction of the Extension Site Program Lead, you will help create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment while leading activities that promote youth development, social skills, and personal growth.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with youth in a fast-paced, hands-on setting and is passionate about making a meaningful impact through recreational and educational programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise youth attending the satellite site, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior
- Plan, organize, and lead engaging activities and programs for youth ages 7–17
- Implement both new and traditional programs aligned with organizational goals
- Provide guidance, support, and positive behavior management for members
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and program participation
- Create and update bulletin boards to promote activities and celebrate achievements
- Communicate regularly with team members regarding program updates, member needs, and facility concerns
- Maintain program supplies, equipment, and overall cleanliness of the space
- Request supplies in a timely manner to support program needs
- Assist in submitting weekly and monthly reports, documentation, and program data
- Ensure programs align with the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lansing
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead group activities for youth
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Positive, patient, and youth-centered approach
- Ability to manage a busy, active environment
- Basic knowledge of recreational games and educational or career development activities
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Qualifications
- Experience working with youth ages 7–17 required
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
- Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with youth for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities
Work Schedule
Summer Program (June 8 – August 14): Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
School Year: Monday–Friday, 3:00 – 8:00 PM
