Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care in. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, including working within a Level I or Level II trauma center, and demonstrate proficiency in managing complex cardiovascular and thoracic cases. As a Travel CVICU RN, you will deliver specialized nursing services to critically ill patients, ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal recovery outcomes. Duties
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the CVICU, including those requiring advanced ventilator support, cardiac catheterization, and post-operative cardiac surgery recovery.
- Monitor vital signs, interpret laboratory results, and perform diagnostic evaluations with precision to inform treatment plans.
- Administer medications and IV infusions accurately, following aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and radiology staff to coordinate patient care effectively.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct patient assessments, physical examinations, and ongoing evaluations to identify changes in condition promptly.
- Assist with invasive procedures such as suturing, catheterizations, and specimen collection while maintaining sterile technique.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, medication administration, and discharge instructions.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU RN experience and 2 years experience as a RN
- 3 years of patient ratio experience
- Charting system experience (any system acceptable; Cerner preferred but not required)
- Travel experience required
- Certification: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Must be greater than 75 miles from the facility
- Must have TN or compact license
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Use of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella, and CRRT
- Post-cardiac surgery care (not directly from OR)
- Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Arterial and central line care
- Continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Ventilator management (BiPAP/CPAP, care of ventilated patients)
- ABG interpretation
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Use of PPE and isolation precautions
- Recognized cardiovascular procedures (e.g., CABG, valve repair/replacement)
- ICU experience required
- Willingness to float according to policies
