Application Data Processor / License Specialist
Nationwide Contractor Licensing (NCL)
About Nationwide Contractor Licensing
Nationwide Contractor Licensing (NCL) helps contractors and construction businesses navigate the often complicated process of obtaining and maintaining contractor licenses throughout the United States.
Our clients rely on us to make a complex process simpler, more organized, and more manageable. That means the quality of our work matters. A missing document, incorrectly entered number, overlooked requirement, or misunderstood instruction can delay a client's license and impact their ability to do business.
We're looking for an Application Data Processor / License Specialist who takes that responsibility seriously.
About the Position
The Application Data Processor / License Specialist is responsible for accurately transferring client information into state, county, and local contractor license applications and helping move those applications through the licensing process.
This position requires much more than basic data entry.
You will need to read instructions carefully, research licensing requirements, identify inconsistencies, recognize when information is missing, communicate with clients, and ensure applications are accurate and complete before submission.
We will train you on contractor licensing. Previous licensing experience is not required. What is required is the ability and willingness to learn a detailed process, follow procedures, think critically, and take ownership of the quality of your work.
What You'll Do
- Prepare contractor license applications for jurisdictions throughout the United States.
- Accurately transfer information from client questionnaires, company documents, and supporting materials into license applications.
- Review applications for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and potential errors.
- Research licensing requirements using state, county, municipal, and regulatory websites.
- Read and interpret application instructions and licensing requirements.
- Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear information before an application is submitted.
- Contact clients professionally when additional information, documents, or clarification is needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding the status of assigned applications.
- Follow established NCL procedures, checklists, and quality-control standards.
- Manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
- Communicate with team members when questions or unusual licensing situations arise.
- Take ownership of assigned work from preparation through completion.
What We're Looking For
The right person for this position is detail-oriented, dependable, organized, and comfortable being held accountable for accuracy.
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have exceptional attention to detail.
- Are comfortable working with forms, documents, numbers, names, dates, and detailed information.
- Can follow written instructions without skipping steps.
- Are willing to research an answer instead of guessing.
- Notice when something "doesn't look right" and investigate it.
- Can work independently while also knowing when to ask questions.
- Are comfortable learning new rules, processes, and terminology.
- Can manage repetitive work without allowing accuracy to decline.
- Communicate professionally by phone and email.
- Can prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Accept feedback and use it to improve your work.
- Take responsibility for mistakes and work to prevent them from happening again.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong computer and internet research skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to accurately process detailed information.
- Ability to learn and follow established procedures.
Preferred, but not required:
- Previous administrative, data processing, document preparation, permitting, compliance, legal support, licensing, or similar experience.
- Experience working with government applications or regulatory agencies.
- Experience in the construction or contractor industry.
Contractor licensing experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person.
What Success Looks Like at NCL
Success in this position isn't simply measured by how quickly you complete an application.
Accuracy comes first.
We expect our License Specialists to understand that the information they process has real consequences for our clients. A single incorrect digit, unanswered question, or overlooked requirement can create unnecessary delays.
Successful team members learn from mistakes, develop strong habits, ask thoughtful questions, and become increasingly capable of handling applications independently.
Our goal is not to find someone who already knows everything about contractor licensing. We're looking for someone who has the attention to detail, judgment, professionalism, and work ethic to become excellent at it.
