Responsibilities
- Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately estimate material requirements and labor costs.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to develop detailed project estimates.
- Conduct thorough cost analysis including material costs, subcontractor bids, and labor rates to prepare comprehensive bid proposals.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously by coordinating with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure accurate pricing and timely submissions.
- Perform site visits to assess existing conditions, review blueprints on-site, and gather data necessary for precise estimation.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive rates while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor project budgets throughout the bidding process and assist in cost control strategies during project execution.
- Review contracts and scope of work documents to ensure alignment with project estimates and client expectations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and construction teams to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions and project realities.
- Prepare detailed spreadsheets using Microsoft Office tools for tracking estimates, costs, and bid comparisons.
- Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and new estimating technologies to continuously improve accuracy and efficiency.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator within the commercial construction industry is essential.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate or similar tools is required.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Solid understanding of construction management processes including cost management, contract review, and project management principles.
- Experience managing projects from initial estimate through project completion with an emphasis on cost control and budget adherence.
- Familiarity with construction site operations and onsite review procedures enhances estimation accuracy.
- Excellent negotiation skills paired with effective client communication abilities are vital for success in this role.
- Knowledge of material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and managing estimation for large-scale commercial projects is highly valued.
