The Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in all facilities, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for staff, visitors, and guests. Primary responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing various areas, handling maintenance requests, and assisting with furniture setup and teardown for events. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the organization’s buildings.
Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, stairs, and other surfaces inside and outside of all buildings.
Scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using heavy industrial-type floor machines.
Vacuum carpets in offices, classrooms, halls, and public areas; shampoo carpets using extraction machines and other carpet cleaning equipment.
Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, pictures, door trim, and whiteboards using recommended cleaning supplies.
Clean, disinfect, and service lavatories, restrooms, showers, and locker rooms.
Wash window sills, interior and exterior windows, corridor doors, entrance doors, and vestibules.
Clean walls, Venetian blinds, curtains, ceiling lights, and HVAC fixtures; work on ladders as required.
Move and assemble furniture and set up/tear down for events and meetings.
Clean and maintain exterior building entrances and surrounding areas.
Collect and replace trash liners and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
Maintain and adjust cleaning equipment such as vacuums, scrubbers, and carpet machines.
Report repair needs using the proper work order request system.
Attempt to unclog toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and showers as needed.
Apply drain conditioners or odor control solutions on a routine schedule.
Remove snow and apply anti-skid materials to building steps and walkways as necessary.
Receive and unload deliveries.
Follow all safety procedures and promptly report accidents or hazards.
Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED required.
Two years of experience in an applied trade preferred.
Ability to receive and follow work orders, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Experience working in varying weather conditions and unpleasant environments.
Ability to handle spills, including body fluids or chemical substances.
Ability to bend, stoop, lift, climb ladders, and remain on feet for extended periods.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
