Duties
- Assist veterinarians with surgical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring and surgical assistance, ensuring all protocols are followed for patient safety.
- Perform laboratory work such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample processing, and diagnostic testing to aid in accurate diagnoses.
- Obtain detailed and accurate medical history from pet owners. Ability to triage pets when they arrive and present cases to a doctor.
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques, including dogs, cats and exotic pets, animal husbandry, and animal restraint methods.
- Conduct radiology diagnostics including X-ray imaging and interpret diagnostic radiology results to support clinical decisions.
- Administer medications accurately via IV insertion or other routes, ensuring proper dosage and documentation.
- Maintain detailed medical records using veterinary software while communicating effectively with clients about pet care instructions and treatment plans.
Requirements
- Valid license as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Michigan.
- Proven veterinary experience with skills in patient care, anesthesia, laboratory work, and radiology.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
- Ability to perform venipuncture (IV insertion), animal catheterization, and vascular access confidently.
- Familiarity with medical equipment operation such as X-ray machines, anesthesia monitors, and laboratory analyzers.
- Excellent animal handling skills along with animal husbandry expertise to ensure safety and comfort for all patients.
