Build and Maintain the Fleet That Powers Critical Utility Infrastructure
Terra Contracting is a growing underground utility contractor specializing in the construction and maintenance of fiber optic, natural gas, electrical, and other underground utility infrastructure throughout Southern Nevada.
We are seeking an experienced Fleet & Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, procurement, compliance, and overall performance of our growing fleet of field vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and specialized construction equipment. This leadership position plays a vital role in keeping our crews productive, our equipment operating safely, and our projects running on schedule.
The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills with hands-on mechanical knowledge and experience managing fleet operations in a construction, utility, or heavy equipment environment.
Position Overview
The Fleet & Equipment Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all fleet maintenance activities while ensuring equipment availability, regulatory compliance, cost control, and operational efficiency.
This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Shop Foremen, Mechanics, and Field Operations to prioritize repairs, schedule preventive maintenance, oversee vendor relationships, and manage the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
Fleet Management
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of company vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, directional drilling equipment, and specialty construction equipment.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime.
- Monitor equipment utilization and replacement planning.
- Maintain accurate fleet maintenance records and equipment history.
Shop Operations
- Coordinate daily workflow with the Shop Foreman and Mechanics.
- Prioritize repairs based on operational needs and project schedules.
- Provide technical guidance for complex diagnostics and repairs.
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
Equipment Procurement
- Research, evaluate, and purchase fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, tools, and other operational assets.
- Develop relationships with equipment dealers, vendors, and service providers.
- Negotiate pricing, warranties, maintenance agreements, and service contracts.
- Assist with fleet expansion planning and capital equipment purchases.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA standards, fleet inspections, licensing requirements, and company safety policies.
- Maintain vehicle registrations, permits, insurance documentation, and compliance records.
- Coordinate annual inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
Leadership
- Lead and support shop personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with field leadership to minimize equipment downtime.
- Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating expenses.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing fleet, equipment, or maintenance operations.
- Experience managing heavy equipment and construction fleet maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, trailers, and construction equipment.
- Experience supervising mechanics or maintenance personnel.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in underground utility construction, heavy civil construction, or utility contracting.
- Experience managing directional drilling equipment, excavators, loaders, trenchers, and support equipment.
- ASE Certification or equivalent technical certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- CDL Class A or B.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
