Job Title: Correctional Officer Trainee (Non-Certified) or Correctional Officer (Certified)
For Non-Certified Officers: If hired, we will pay you & pay for your training.
Job Type: Full-time (5 on, 2 off)
Shifts: 8.5 hours (12AM-8:30AM, 8AM-4:30PM, 4PM-12:30AM)
Work Remotely: Not Available
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be a citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization.
- Be a high school graduate or its “equivalent”.
- Be able to pass a medical examination (physical & drug test).
- Be able to pass a background investigation with no felony convictions or withheld adjudications, or misdemeanors involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence.
- Must not have dishonorable characterization of military service.
Examples of Essential Functions of a Correctional Officer:
- Read, comprehend, interpret and abide by policies, post orders, standard operating procedures, etc.
- Work rotating or fixed shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime possibly without notice as required.
- Successfully complete all training requirements.
- Have good observation skills.
- Effectively communicate with inmates, staff and the general public.
- Maintain physical and mental alertness and handle the stress that occurs under normal or unusual circumstances in this position.
- Prepare accurate and concise reports, forms, investigations and logs in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Issue, inventory, inspect and receive various types of equipment.
- Conduct accurate head counts of inmates.
- Recognize behavioral characteristics of offenders.
- Escort inmates within the secured perimeter.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations when called upon.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and emotional self-control while responding to or addressing situations.
- Perform visual and manual searches of male or female inmates.
- Transport inmates outside or inside the secured perimeter by driving department approved vehicles in a safe and secure manner.
- Deal with emergencies, life threatening or traumatic incidents in a rational and objective manner.
- Defend oneself or another against attack by violent persons, utilizing agency approved self-defense techniques and devices.
- Physically restrain or use mechanical restraints on inmates when necessary.
- Perform thorough visual and manual searches of persons, vehicles, mail, objects and places capable of concealing contraband.
- Perform designated functions during emergencies, disasters and at accident scenes.
Starting Pay: $22 per hour
Overtime Pay: Time and a Half
Limited Time Bonus Opportunity at Institutions with 10% or Higher Vacancy:
