Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make an impact supporting students with visual impairments as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in the Binghamton, NY area. This full-time contract position runs approximately from early September 2026 to early June 2027, following the typical school year calendar. As an onsite educator, you’ll collaborate with students, families, and school teams to empower learners and break down barriers to access in the classroom environment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Hold appropriate state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in special education, visual impairment, or a related field
- Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
- Strong skills in assessment, IEP development, and documentation
- Familiarity with adaptive technology, Braille instruction, and accommodations for visually impaired learners
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and specialized support to students with visual impairments across grade levels
- Assess student abilities and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs
- Consult with classroom teachers and staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion
- Teach and reinforce the use of assistive technology and Braille as needed
- Maintain accurate records and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
- Engage families to support student goals and self-advocacy skills
