Automotive Manufacturing Robotics Repair Engineering Technician
We are putting together a team of skilled robotics engineering technicians who will work in a coordinated group under the leadership of a lead Technician and Engineer.
Our desired candidates are TN visa holders currently residing in the United States or persons with the relevant background interested in pursuing a career in the United States under a TN visa program with a company sponsored Green Card option after 6 months of satisfactory employment. Qualified applicants will be able to meet the requirements for a TN visa Engineering Technician.
Position Summary
The Automotive Manufacturing Robotics Repair Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing robotic and automated production equipment used in automotive manufacturing. This position supports high-volume production by responding to equipment breakdowns, identifying root causes of failures, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring robotic systems operate safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with industrial robots, automated manufacturing equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, and production-line troubleshooting. Experience with automotive manufacturing and robotic welding applications is highly preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial robots and automated production equipment.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production-line interruptions to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot robotic welding cells, material-handling systems, fixtures, conveyors, tooling, sensors, and related automation.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment problems.
- Perform repairs and adjustments to robotic arms, servo motors, weld guns, positioners, fixtures, clamps, grippers, and end-of-arm tooling.
- Troubleshoot robot faults, alarms, communication issues, positioning errors, and programming-related problems.
- Perform robot recovery, mastering, calibration, and basic programming/teaching as required.
- Make adjustments to robot programs, positions, speeds, and sequences within established procedures.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, I/O, sensors, safety circuits, and industrial networks.
- Use electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, mechanical drawings, manuals, and diagnostic software to identify equipment problems.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on robotic and automated equipment.
- Inspect equipment for abnormal wear, damage, alignment issues, and potential failures.
- Assist with installation, setup, commissioning, and modification of robotic cells and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Support production and engineering teams during new equipment launches, process changes, and equipment upgrades.
- Document equipment failures, repairs, downtime, and corrective actions.
- Identify recurring equipment problems and participate in root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities.
- Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability, safety, cycle time, and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable OSHA requirements.
Robotics & Automation Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial robots from manufacturers such as FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, KUKA, or similar platforms.
- Use robot teach pendants and diagnostic systems to identify and correct faults.
- Perform robot position adjustments and recovery procedures.
- Troubleshoot robotic welding systems, including weld controllers, wire feeders, weld guns, dress packages, and associated tooling.
- Diagnose sensor and I/O problems affecting robotic cells.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled automation and communication between robots, PLCs, HMIs, and other production equipment.
- Assist with robot mastering, calibration, tooling alignment, and fixture verification.
- Support automated material-handling systems, conveyors, lifts, transfer systems, and other production automation.
Required Qualifications
- Technical degree
- 2–5 years of industrial maintenance, robotics, automation, electrical, or manufacturing repair experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting industrial equipment in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment such as multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Basic understanding of PLCs, sensors, relays, motors, drives, and industrial control systems.
- Ability to safely perform lockout/tagout and other industrial maintenance procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under time pressure in a high-volume production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive manufacturing or Tier 1/Tier 2 automotive production.
- Experience with FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, KUKA, or similar industrial robots.
- Experience with robotic resistance spot welding or MIG welding systems.
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.
- Experience with servo drives, VFDs, safety PLCs, and industrial communication networks.
- Experience troubleshooting DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or similar industrial networks.
- Robotics programming or teach-pendant experience.
- Electrical, robotics, automation, or industrial maintenance certification.
- Experience with preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and root-cause analysis.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all company, state, and federal safety requirements.
- Perform proper lockout/tagout before servicing hazardous equipment.
- Follow robotic-cell entry and machine-guarding procedures.
- Maintain required electrical and machine-safety practices.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow established welding and manufacturing safety procedures.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and potential hazards.
- Maintain awareness of personnel and equipment movement around automated production cells.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, components, and equipment as required.
- Ability to work around noise, heat, welding operations, moving machinery, electrical equipment, and industrial chemicals.
- Ability to work at elevated heights when required.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as required by production needs.
