About the Position
We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Facility Manager who understands that managing an STRTP is about much more than supervising a residential facility.
This position helps create an environment where youth feel safe, respected, supported, accountable and hopeful about their future.
The Assistant Facility Manager supports the day-to-day operation of the STRTP and provides leadership to direct care staff while helping ensure that the program operates safely, professionally, consistently and in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
We are looking for someone who can lead people, solve problems, maintain accountability and remain calm during challenging situations.
Most importantly, we want a leader who understands that the way staff interact with youth can have a lasting impact on their lives.
What You Will Do
The Assistant Facility Manager will assist the Facility Manager/Administrator with daily residential operations, staff supervision, youth safety, scheduling, documentation, training, quality assurance and maintaining a professional therapeutic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide day-to-day leadership and support to direct care/residential staff.
- Help ensure adequate staffing and appropriate shift coverage.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, call-offs, shift changes and overtime concerns.
- Conduct shift check-ins and help ensure effective communication between incoming and outgoing staff.
- Provide coaching, feedback and appropriate corrective guidance to staff in collaboration with management and HR.
- Help orient and train new direct care employees.
- Model trauma-informed, professional and respectful interactions with youth.
- Maintain appropriate staff/youth boundaries and ensure employees understand expectations regarding professional conduct.
- Help ensure youth receive appropriate supervision and support throughout the residential program.
- Monitor the implementation of daily routines, activities, appointments, school schedules and transportation.
- Help ensure youth rights, dignity, privacy and confidentiality are protected.
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff regarding treatment-related residential needs.
- Participate in treatment-team, staff, administrative and other program meetings as assigned.
Safety & Crisis Management
The Assistant Facility Manager must be a calm and dependable leader during challenging situations.
Responsibilities include:
- Recognizing potential safety concerns before they escalate.
- Supporting staff in using approved trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.
- Responding appropriately to behavioral and program emergencies.
- Following individualized safety and crisis plans.
- Ensuring appropriate notifications are made following significant incidents.
- Reviewing incident documentation for completeness and timeliness.
- Immediately escalating serious safety, abuse, neglect, boundary, medication, AWOL/elopement or other reportable concerns according to organizational policy and applicable requirements.
- Supporting post-incident debriefing and identifying opportunities for prevention.
We want a leader who asks not only "What happened?" but also "What can we learn from this, and how can we prevent it from happening again?"
Staff Leadership
A significant responsibility of this position is developing a strong residential team.
The Assistant Facility Manager should be capable of:
- Coaching employees.

Documentation & Quality Assurance
Help maintain accurate, timely and organized residential records.
Responsibilities may include reviewing:
- Shift documentation
- Daily logs
- Incident reports
- Medication documentation, as applicable
- Youth appointments
- Transportation records
- Visitor documentation
- Staff training records
- Facility checklists
- Safety inspections
- Maintenance requests
- Youth property/inventory records
- Required program documentation
The Assistant Facility Manager should identify missing, incomplete or concerning documentation and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Facility Operations
Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, safe and welcoming residential environment.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting routine facility walkthroughs.
- Identifying maintenance and safety concerns.
- Monitoring food, household and program supplies.
- Coordinating maintenance requests.
- Monitoring vehicle condition and transportation needs.
- Helping maintain emergency supplies.
- Ensuring required postings and facility information are maintained.
- Supporting emergency and disaster preparedness.
- Helping prepare the facility for inspections, audits and licensing visits.
The goal is not simply to "pass an inspection." The facility should be inspection-ready every day.
Collaboration With the Clinical Team
The Assistant Facility Manager works closely with the Mental Health Team and other treatment-team members.
The Assistant Facility Manager does not replace clinical staff or make independent clinical decisions outside the position's scope.
Instead, the role helps ensure that therapeutic strategies and treatment-team recommendations are appropriately supported within the residential environment.
Strong communication between clinical and residential teams is essential.

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in an STRTP, group home, residential treatment program, behavioral-health program, child-welfare setting, youth program or similar environment.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, foster youth, transitional-age youth or individuals with behavioral/mental-health needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis prevention.
- Experience supervising, coaching or training employees.
- Strong written documentation skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
Education Bachelors Degree Preferred and 3 years experience requirements should be finalized according to the organization's STRTP program design, position responsibilities, Community Care Licensing requirements and other applicable contractual/regulatory requirements.
Additional Employment Requirements
Depending upon applicable program and position requirements, candidates must be able to satisfy requirements such as:
- DOJ/FBI criminal-record clearance
- Applicable child-abuse-related clearance requirements
- Health/TB clearance
- Valid California driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Mandated Reporter training
- Crisis prevention/intervention training
- STRTP-required orientation and continuing training
- Ability to meet applicable physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Schedule Expectations
Residential care operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Assistant Facility Manager must have sufficient scheduling flexibility to support program operations, which may include:
Days Evenings Weekends Holidays Emergency coverage
This position may also participate in an on-call leadership rotation, if established by the organization.

A successful Assistant Facility Manager doesn't simply keep the shift covered.

Youth are safe. Staff know what is expected. Documentation is completed. The facility is organized. Problems are addressed early. Clinical recommendations are supported. Employees receive coaching. Leadership is informed. And youth experience consistency regardless of which staff member is working.

Before You Apply
This position requires more than administrative ability.
There will be days when a staff member calls off unexpectedly, a youth is struggling emotionally, transportation arrangements change, documentation needs correction, a maintenance issue appears and leadership needs information—all at the same time.
