Job Description:
The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at Norwich University invites applicants for a full-time visiting instructor/assistant professor for one year, starting in Fall 2026. Responsibilities include teaching in the Exercise Science and Health Science programs; depending on the candidate, there may also be opportunities for scholarship and/or institutional service including an interim position of Program Director of the CoAES-accredited Exercise Science program. The department is particularly interested in candidates with strong teaching records and/or experience conducting research with undergraduates.
The successful candidate will have a passion for excellent teaching, with post-secondary level teaching experience preferred. All applicants must have demonstrated commitment to working with a student body that is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, culture, academic interests, and career paths. Willingness to work collaboratively with other faculty is essential.
Housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) includes degree programs in Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Athletic Training, Physical Education-Teacher Education, Physical Education-Recreation Management, and Public Health. The department averages 150 enrolled majors across all programs. Introductory courses are generally limited to a maximum of 30 students, while enrollment at the junior/senior level, especially laboratory courses, is typically in the low teens. In addition to the CoAES-accredited Exercise Science program, the Master of Athletic Training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), and the Physical Education-Teacher Education program is accredited by the Vermont Agency of Education's Results Oriented Program Approval (ROPA) process to recommend K-12 Physical Education teacher licensure. Full-time faculty members are provided access to funding opportunities to attend conferences, maintain membership in professional societies, engage undergraduates in research, and further their own scholarship.
Job Requirements:

A doctorate in Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology or related field, is required for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will be considered for the position of Visiting Instructor.
The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach some or all of the following undergraduate courses: Nutrition, Introductory and Advanced Exercise and Sport Psychology, Research Methods, and various introductory level courses such as Scientific Foundations of Health and Wellness.
