Mackenzie’s California presence is expanding with the growth of our Sacramento office. We are seeking a highly experienced structural engineering leader (SE required) with 10–20 years of experience to join our team. This full-time role is suited for a self-motivated professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about leading teams and delivering high-quality projects.
This position involves guiding and mentoring engineering staff while partnering with department leadership on strategic initiatives and business development. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute to both project execution and the continued growth of the structural department.
This role is ideal for a motivated leader interested in helping build and grow a new office presence, through establishment of a strong and collaborative team environment, involvement in staffing, business development, and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee structural projects from conceptual planning through design, documentation, and construction administration.

Serve as the structural engineering lead and engineer of record on complex and/or large-scale projects.

Collaborate with Architects, Interior Designers, Civil Engineers, Landscape Architects, and MEP consultant teams on projects.

Perform and oversee structural gravity and lateral design calculations across a wide variety of project types.

Plan, organize, coordinate, and lead the structural design team, including mentoring and supervising junior engineers.

Manage structural project scope, schedule, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.

Support Structural Department leadership in implementing corporate strategy and advancing discipline-specific initiatives and unified practice standards.

Assist in operational management efforts for the structural department, including staffing coordination, recruitment, and hiring.

Foster staff development by supporting mentorship, growth opportunities, and a positive team environment.

Participate in proposal preparation and business development efforts.
Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.

10 to 20 years of structural engineering experience with relevant project types.

Structural Engineering (SE) license required.

Advanced working knowledge of seismic design and applicable building codes (ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI, AISC, etc.).

Experience with OSHPD/HCAI projects is preferred.

Experience with steel design and interest in manufacturing and semiconductor facility projects is a plus.

Proven ability to lead and coordinate the production of complete construction document packages for medium to large-scale projects.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects through all phases, including construction contract administration.

Experience developing and maintaining project specifications.

Previous experience leading and mentoring staff.

Ability to think and work across disciplines and support a unified project delivery process.

Salary Range: $130,000 to $170,000
At Mackenzie, we work a hybrid office schedule; all staff work in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with an option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.
