We're looking for an experienced Strategic Network Design Engineer to join our Networks & Engineering team on a multi-year, fully remote project. If you've led the strategic design of large-scale transport network migration programmes and enjoy solving complex network architecture challenges, this one's for you.
What you'll be doing
Working under the Head of Planning, you'll develop high-level strategic designs that enable the migration and optimisation of legacy SONET, DWDM and IP networks onto modern platforms, ensuring efficient delivery with minimal customer disruption. Day to day, you'll:
- Develop and execute high-level strategic designs to support migration and grooming programmes
- Design strategic and tactical solutions for migrating legacy SONET, DWDM and IP services across multi-vendor environments
- Design topology changes within complex ring and transport network configurations
- Conduct circuit audits and inventory assessments
- Perform access tail, vendor and network data analysis
- Identify existing network capacity to support migration and grooming activities
- Plan new Gigabit, 10G and 100G services across DWDM infrastructure
- Recommend site-specific capacity upgrades and strategic network solutions
- Collaborate with Fibre, DWDM, IP and Field Engineering teams to deliver successful migration programmes
What you'll bring
- Strong understanding of SONET, DWDM and OTN principles and transport network topologies
- Solid understanding of IP networking and transport infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with circuit and inventory audits
- Proficiency in network data analysis and migration strategy development
- The ability to design and dissect highly complex multi-degree ROADM networks
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A strategic, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with Pro (Granite) and TIRKS inventory systems preferred
- Experience working across multi-vendor environments, including technologies from Ciena, Cisco, Infinera, ADVA, Alcatel-Lucent, Fujitsu and Nortel, is advantageous
