The Family Preservation Specialist shall assist client families in meeting their needs, empower families by helping them to access community-based resources and utilize strengths to reunify children with their parents, maintain children in the home and prevent out-of-home placement. The Family Preservation Specialist is responsible for developing appropriate treatment interventions and working effectively with caseworkers, home supervisors, foster parents, therapists, and external professionals (GAL, CASA, probation, school staff, etc.). The Family Preservation Specialist will work with many different referrals through the agency such as: supervising visitations, working with individuals to build Life Skills, helping families with reunification.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Family Preservation Specialist shall:
1. Involve the client family in developing the Family Services Plan.
2. Ascertain the strengths and goals of the client family for inclusion into the FSP.
3. Provide in-home training and support that addresses safety, parenting, home management, and conflict resolution.
4. Attend and/or arrange staffings and court for clients when appropriate.
5. Provide written documentation, including treatment plan, progress notes and monthly reports in a timely manner.
6. Submit billing in timely manner.
7. Provide on-call support to clients 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, and is responsible for finding coverage for holidays and vacations as needed.
8. Facilitate and empower clients to access community resources; this includes, but is not limited to academic, medical, mental health, housing, child-care, food, clothing, church, etc., as the family would deem appropriate.
9. Promote team concept with therapists, caseworkers and home supervisors to best service needs of clients.
10. Participate in clinical team meetings.
11. Accept many different referrals such as: family reunification work, life skills work, supervising visitation.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:
The Family Preservation Specialist must:
1. Provide official college transcripts, showing that s/he has earned at least a Bachelor’s level degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field from a state accredited college or university.
2. Participate in ongoing education and training opportunities to include TBRI trainings.
3. Complete a Kids Crossing employment application.
4. Pass required background checks, i.e., CBI, FBI, Central Registry.
5. Provide his/her own vehicle for transporting clients and conducting business. Therefore, this employee must possess a valid drivers license, have a clean driving record, maintain a safe vehicle, and current automobile insurance to cover business use of a private vehicle. (If an employee is unsure about the extent of his/her
automobile insurance cover, s/he should contact his/her insurance agent.) - Mileage is reimbursed at the state rate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment, clients’ homes, school jails, court, etc. There will be exposure to hostile individuals and family situations, as well as unsanitary and hazardous conditions.
