Salary: $30/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM with occasional evening
Location: 320 Carlton Ave in Central Islip, NY
What drives the core purpose of this job:
The ADR Community and Court Services Specialist provides court-connected and community-based ADR services in Suffolk County. This position is responsible for in-court intake and screening, case coordination, mediation scheduling, and direct mediation services as needed. The Specialist also manages and coordinates the lemon law arbitration program. The position requires periodic travel between Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as occasional travel throughout New York State for meetings, trainings, conferences, program coverage, and other agency-related activities.
What are the key responsibilities:
Lemon Law Arbitration Programming:
- Manage and Coordinate the Lemon Law Arbitration programming including intake, scheduling,
arbitrator assignments, and hearing logistics.
Serve as virtual host for Lemon Law hearings and ensure compliance with program procedures.
Prepare and submit monthly statistical data and manage arbitrator files.
Assist with Lemon Law Apprenticeship Program
Court Project Services:
- Provide daily Small Claims Court coverage in Suffolk County during morning court calendars
- Conduct in-court intake screening and explain mediation to litigants for mediation appropriateness
- Maintain regular communication with court clerks and court administrators
- Mediate as needed.
- Prepare and submit required court documentation and disposition reports
General Program Responsibilities:
- Maintain confidential case files and documentation
- Enter case data into Caseload Manager
- Participate in staff meetings and training activities
- Assist with outreach and public education efforts
- Perform other ADR duties as assigned
What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:
Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred in conflict resolution, human services, criminal justice, or related field
Certified mediator or eligible for certification
Experience working in court-based or community mediation programs preferred
Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills
Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office, database systems, and virtual platforms (Zoom,Webex, Teams)
Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
