Overview: The Laborers are responsible for daily cleanup and housekeeping throughout all areas of the plant while complying with all applicable mining regulations, and company policies at all times. Laborers may also be called upon to assist other MCC employees in the on-going daily routine operation. Employees who are classified as Laborer must meet the following qualifications:
- Have a working knowledge of the plant, MCC operations and process flow. Preferred
- Have a reliable attendance and safety record. Required
- Be able to work without constant supervision. Required
- Be able to give and take direction. Required
- Knowledge of safe operations of mobile equipment. Required
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently over the radio. Required
- Be Physically fit. Required
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of a Laborer include but are not limited to:
- Area/workplace examinations of all working areas shall be performed as work begins and documented before end of shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional area/workplace examinations may be performed as conditions warrant. (i.e. changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)
- Workplace examinations must be performed to ensure that the employee and his/her fellow workers have a safe place to work. Workplace examinations must be performed completely; cursory inspections are not adequate.
- The Laborer is responsible for addressing and taking corrective actions when capable.
- If the employee is not capable of repairing an identified deficiency the employee must notify their supervisor immediately and if conditions are unsafe they must initiate stop work authority to prevent any work in the area.
- Performance of corrective actions shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal / state regulations and company policies at all times.
- Performing a complete inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the on-shift Production Supervisor. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the Laborer. The on-shift Production Supervisor contacted will determine the scope of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required.
- The Laborer is responsible for checking the lubrication, coolant, and fuel levels of all machinery/mobile equipment that the employee operates.
- The Laborer is responsible for adding all proper fluids, and oil.(i.e. winter grease in winter and summer grease in summer)
- The Laborer is primarily responsible for performing housekeeping duties throughout all areas of the MCC daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards. Clean up work constitutes the major part of the Laborers daily work activities. Work activities must be performed while adhering to all applicable federal/state regulations and company policies at all times.
- Example of housekeeping activities include but are not limited to:
- Sweeping of areas with push brooms.
- Shoveling piles of excess spilled materials and/or mud.
- Using the “Guzzler” vacuum truck to remove excess materials.
- Sweeping and blowing down beams and horizontal surfaces inside of buildings and then shoveling/sweeping up the materials
- Laborers are required to operate various pieces of mobile equipment. Proper task training and safe operation guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.
- Performs all other work as directed.
Education & Experience Requirements: Employees who are classified as Laborer must meet the following education and experience requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Required
Physical Requirements: The Laborer position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Regularly working 8 hour shifts, occasionally working 12 hour shift including nights and weekends.
- Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
- Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing
- Lifting 80+ lbs regularly
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Travel routes may include stairs, catwalks, ladders, elevated walkways, and uneven floors.
