JOB Coordinates and supports the operational aspects of the Hawai‘i Police Department’s impaired, unsafe driving, and safety-related activities and programs in an effort to reduce traffic accidents, injuries, and deaths; develops educational and informational materials; trains and supervises school crossing guards; and performs other related duties.
There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Hawai'i Police Department - Traffic Services Division in Hilo.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Special Working Conditions: Available to work flexible hours and have access to insured vehicle for travelling as it relates to program activities. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Collaborates with organizations within the community and other government agencies to coordinate strategic plans to reduce the number of motor vehicle related deaths and injuries caused by impaired and unsafe driving.

Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of subordinate staff; provides training as necessary; conducts job performance evaluations.

Initiates and maintains regular contact with community and private agencies to encourage support and participation in the various prevention campaigns and impaired driving program activities; works closely with groups to ensure that the programs remain viable.

Gathers data and statistics concerning traffic crashes and incidents; prepares reports for internal review, public meetings, or grant applications.

Maintains data related to impaired driving, traffic violations, and traffic accidents; analyzes data to identify traffic safety concerns; prepares reports of recommendations.

Develops and prepares training materials for presentations; plans and coordinates and/or conducts training sessions or informational meetings for various government and community organizations; coordinates logistics.

Evaluates the traffic violation notification system; receives and reviews traffic violation complaints and prepares follow-up correspondence to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Prepares administrative and statistical reports; maintains files and records.

Operates a vehicle to perform work-related duties.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
