Position Title: Emergency Department Triage RN
Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus
Role & Department: Emergency Department Triage, Emergency Services Department
Hours & Shift: .75 FTE (60 hours per pay period) and the work shift will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (hours may vary) and will include a weekend and holiday rotation
Role Responsibilities:
- The Emergency Department (ED) RN triages incoming patients, gathers vital signs, documents initial information, and directs them for care, within the scope of their practice. Reports to under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Services.
- ED RN will greet patients, perform limited or focused assessments, will obtain and record patient vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse, and oxygen saturation. Rapid assessment of incoming patients per alignment with the ENA Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 1 through 5.
- Will accurately record patient data, vital signs, and care provided
- Patient Prioritization in identifying critical "STAT" cases and activating protocols for conditions like chest pain, stroke, or trauma
- Ongoing evaluation of the patients in the ED waiting room to include repeat vital signs. Acts as a liaison between the medical and nursing team, patients, and their families to provide status updates and manage wait-room expectations. Communicate updates to families and medical staff
- Critical thinking & quick decision-making skills are necessary to quickly interpret symptoms and prioritize care
- Strong communication skills are required for clear, concise communication with patients, families, nurses, and physicians and other medical providers
- Teamwork: Must be able to work effectively under the guidance of advanced healthcare professionals
- Multi-tasking: will manage care for multiple patients simultaneously
- Resilience: ability to stay calm and provide care in high-stress, critical situations
- Ensure that triage and treatment rooms are cleaned, stocked with supplies, and that emergency equipment is functional
- Performs 12-lead EKGs, point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), and wound care
- Initiates basic life support measures, including CPR, airway management, and hemorrhage control when necessary
- Candidates may be required to assist with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Director of Emergency Services in the Emergency Department
Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Registered Nurse (RN)
- One (2) year of experience in an acute hospital setting or emergency nursing.
- Current BLS , ACLS certification
- Course completion: ENA Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 1 through 5.
- Strong ability to make rapid, safe decisions and recognize the appropriate level of care.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent communications skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work with all contacts using good customer relation skills
- Prior experience using the EPIC medical record system is preferred but not required
