Reports To: Dietary Supervisor / Director of Dining Services
The Dietary Aide assists with meal preparation, food service, sanitation, and kitchen operations in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures. The Dietary Aide helps ensure residents receive nutritious, safe, and appealing meals while maintaining a clean and sanitary dining environment.
Review, prepare, and serve meals according to planned menus, standardized recipes, and residents’ special diet orders.
Prepare and serve bedtime snacks, substitutions, and other food items as directed.
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
Maintain clean, safe, and orderly kitchen, dining, and food service areas.
Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures and ensure utensils and equipment are available for meal service.
Prepare and deliver snacks, food carts, and meal trays to designated areas.
Serve food and beverages to residents in the dining room as instructed.
Sweep and mop kitchen and dish room floors as assigned.
Properly operate and care for dietary equipment and supplies.
Report equipment, sanitation, safety, or supply concerns to the supervisor.
Interact with residents in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
Assist with emergency evacuation procedures when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Supervisor or Director.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Previous dietary, food service, healthcare, or long-term care experience preferred but not required.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, menus, recipes, and special diet requirements.
Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
Must demonstrate patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm when working with residents.
Must be dependable, cooperative, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Must maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in all assigned areas.
Must be willing to learn and incorporate new food service methods and procedures.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must possess adequate sight and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry or move that weight at least 50 feet.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
May be required to assist with the evacuation of residents during an emergency.
