Job Summary:
The Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR) performs direct care to and meets the needs of residents and patients under the supervision of a nurse.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides direct care services in the following areas: dressing, bathing, grooming, elimination, food and fluids, mental stimulation, vital signs and weights, ensuring access to personal care supplies and post-mortem care. With specialized training and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to the assigned area.

Contributes to the implementation of resident and patient care plans and assists in attaining the highest degree of functional independence.
- Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.

Interacts with customers/visitors in a warm and friendly manner.

Instills confidence in patients by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.

Observes and reports any resident and patient changes to the nurse to ensure professional assessment and proper documentation. Changes include but not limited to conditions changes, behaviors or complaints.
- Effectively Communicates:

with residents and patients in a kind and caring manner to provide and gather pertinent information in order to implement quality care.
- with charge nurse, other NAR staff on and off unit, and other departments

utilizes formal tools within the department: the communication book, meeting minutes, meeting attendance, report offs, and notices on bulletin boards.

Aware of state and federal regulations that pertain to the delivery of long term care and/or hospital services.

Maintains a safe environment for residents, patients and co-workers; transports residents and patients according to their needs and uses equipment appropriately and safely.
- Continuing Education: Attends staff meetings, mandatory in-services and meets annual continuing education requirements. If unable to attend staff meetings or in-services, seeks out the information from Director of Nursing or RN educators.
Requirements:
- High school graduate preferred.

Successful completion of nursing assistant course or the equivalent.

Previous hospital or nursing home experience with acceptable references preferred.

Must pass a pre-employment test (drug screen).
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

Frequent bending and stooping

Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
