Provides complex technical assistance and clerical support for System Children’s Services. Directs the daily operations of the professional Story Collection by maintaining, processing, arranging, shifting, and sending out materials to staff at all library locations, as well as recommending new materials. Records statistics for a variety of section activities and responds to staff inquiries about the Collection. Distributes materials, performs clerical tasks for special projects, and serves as a backup to the Library Associate II in ABC Kits. Assists with orientation and workshops for Library staff. Participates in outreach activities and occasionally presents story times.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours) AND one (1) year of experience working in a library,
OR
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of college-level coursework (must specify 30-semester/45-quarter hours) AND two (2) years of experience working in a library,
OR
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a library.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working in children and teen services/activities with young children,
- Knowledge of children’s literature (must specify on application),
- Experience with storytelling (must specify on application),
- Experience using computer technology and audio-visual equipment (must specify on application),
- Experience presenting oral and written reports as well as presentations (must specify on application), and
- Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
