Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manual Machinist Intern/Helper to join our manufacturing team. This position offers hands-on experience in machining processes, supporting our skilled machinists in producing high-precision components. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and have a passion for manufacturing and metalworking.
Responsibilities
- Assist experienced machinists with setup, operation, and maintenance of machining equipment such as lathes, mills, and grinders
- Support the measurement and inspection of parts using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.
- Help with tooling selection, installation, and adjustments to optimize machining processes
- Participate in safety protocols by maintaining a clean workspace, handling hand tools and power tools properly, and adhering to safety guidelines
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by supporting lean manufacturing practices and process enhancements
Requirements
- Strong mechanical knowledge with basic math skills for measurements and calculations (Preferred)
- Interest in manufacturing processes such as machining, plastics injection molding, welding, or assembly
- Familiarity with blueprint reading and technical drawings; prior experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring instruments
- Ability to work safely with tooling equipment and support the use of machines such as milling machines or lathes
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment preferred but not mandatory
- Enthusiasm for teamwork, learning new skills, and contributing to a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Have the ability to stand continuously and be able to lift 80lbs.
