The Area 31 Early College Pharmacy Technician Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom, laboratory, and work-based learning experiences that prepare high school students for careers in pharmacy and healthcare. The instructor provides rigorous, industry-aligned instruction that supports student achievement of Indiana graduation requirements, dual credit opportunities, and nationally recognized industry credentials, including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.
The instructor collaborates with Area 31 staff, partner high schools, postsecondary institutions, healthcare partners, and business and industry representatives to ensure students develop the technical knowledge, professional skills, and workplace competencies necessary for success in pharmacy careers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with Indiana Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards and Area 31 curriculum.
- Prepare students for successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) national certification examination.
- Deliver instruction in pharmacy operations, pharmacology, medication safety, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical calculations, inventory management, sterile and non-sterile compounding, customer service, and healthcare communication.
- Integrate classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory experiences using current pharmacy practices and technologies.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Maintain accurate lesson plans, assessments, grading, and student records.
Student Development
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
- Promote professionalism, ethical behavior, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
- Advise and mentor students regarding career pathways, postsecondary education, and employment opportunities.
- Monitor student progress and implement interventions to support academic success.
- Encourage participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), leadership activities, and work-based learning experiences.
Program Management
- Maintain laboratory equipment, instructional materials, and inventory in accordance with industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, pharmacy regulations, and all applicable safety requirements.
- Maintain documentation necessary for program compliance, state reporting, and accreditation requirements.
- Collaborate with advisory committee members to maintain curriculum relevance and program quality.
- Participate in program recruitment, marketing, student selection, and community outreach activities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Area 31 staff, sending schools, Vincennes University, , and industry partners.
- Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy practice, healthcare trends, and instructional best practices.
- Participate in required professional development and maintain all required educator and industry credentials.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Principal.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Education, or a closely related discipline.
- Current Indiana State Pharmacy Technician License in good standing.
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) National Certification (CPhT).
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent pharmacy industry experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of retail, hospital, institutional, or specialty pharmacy operations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, postsecondary institutions, and business partners.
