The Local Market is looking for friendly, dependable, and hardworking individuals to join our team as a Cashier/Customer Service Associate and Deli Associate.
Our team members help create a welcoming experience for every customer by providing excellent service, maintaining a clean and well-stocked store, accurately handling purchases, and preparing fresh, quality food. Depending on the needs of the location, your experience, and your assigned position, you may work primarily in the retail area, the deli, or assist in both areas.

What You’ll Do
Customer Service and Retail Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide friendly, respectful, and efficient service.
- Operate the register and accurately process cash, credit/debit, EBT, coupons, lottery, money orders, and other approved transactions.
- Count change, issue receipts, and follow all cash-handling and fraud-prevention procedures.
- Verify identification and follow all legal and company requirements for alcohol, tobacco, lottery, and other age-restricted sales.
- Inform customers about promotions, Local Rewards, and applicable fuel-loyalty programs.
- Answer customer questions and involve store leadership when additional assistance is needed.
- Stock, rotate, organize, and front merchandise in the store and coolers.
- Check products for expiration and properly remove or handle out-of-date merchandise.
- Replenish coffee, cappuccino, fountain-drink, and frozen-drink stations.
- Maintain clean and orderly registers, beverage stations, restrooms, fuel islands, exterior areas, and other customer spaces.
- Assist with deliveries, vendors, receipt paper, trash removal, and other daily store-operating tasks.
Deli and Food-Service Responsibilities
- Greet deli customers, answer questions, and provide prompt and friendly service.
- Prepare, cook, portion, package, label, and display food according to company recipes and standards.
- Prepare breakfast and lunch items while following established cooking times, procedures, and production levels.
- Stock and maintain the hot bar, grab-and-go areas, pastry case, sweets table, and other food displays.
- Monitor product levels and prepare additional items as needed to keep food available, fresh, and appealing.
- Check and record cooking, holding, cooling, and equipment temperatures as required.
- Follow proper handwashing, glove use, date-coding, food-rotation, time-and-temperature, and food-storage procedures.
- Safely operate fryers, ovens, warmers, slicers, and other food-service equipment after receiving the required training.
- Clean and sanitize food-preparation surfaces, utensils, dishes, equipment, floors, and service areas.
- Follow wash, rinse, and sanitize procedures and complete required cleaning and food-safety logs.
- Properly hold, rotate, mark down, or dispose of food according to company procedures.
- Assist with opening, meal-period transitions, closing, stocking, and other deli duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For

- Ability to accurately handle money, count change, and perform basic math.
- Willingness to learn register, food-service, safety, and store-operating procedures.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete required documentation.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, food safety, transaction accuracy, and customer service.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to work a variable schedule that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. PM and Weekend shifts are currently needed in particular.
Previous cashier, retail, convenience-store, restaurant, deli, kitchen, or food-service experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
Physical and Work Requirements
Team members must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, stoop, twist, and use their hands to operate equipment, stock merchandise, prepare food, and complete cleaning tasks. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling merchandise, food products, supplies, trash, and equipment.
Employees may work indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to changing temperatures, cooking equipment, vehicle traffic, fuel odors, cleaning products, food allergens, and wet or slippery surfaces. Deli assignments require compliance with all applicable food-safety, sanitation, glove-use, and hair-restraint requirements.
