Job SummaryWe are seeking two dedicated and responsible drivers to transport children from elementary schools to an after school program in Newton, MA. The ideal candidates will have experience in van driving and a commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation services. This role involves transporting elementary school children, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey five days a week. Hours are approximately 2:00-4:00pm M/T/Th/F and 11:45am-1:45pm on Wednesdays during the school year. Vans are provided. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage behavior effectively are essential for this position.
Duties
- Safely operate a van adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
- Assist children with boarding as needed.
- Maintain a clean and orderly van environment.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, parents, and after school staff regarding schedules and any changes.
- Manage passenger behavior to ensure a safe travel experience for all.
- Document any incidents or issues that arise during transport.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger inquiries and concerns promptly.
Requirements
- Valid School Pupil Transport driver’s certification (7D).
- Pass CORI and SORI background checks as well as national and state fingerprint and criminal history database checks.
- Experience in van driving or bus driving preferred; school bus driving experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle operation is advantageous.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate patience and effective behavior management techniques.
- Customer service orientation with a friendly demeanor towards passengers of all ages.
