Job Summary
The Building and Grounds Assistant is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of the organization’s buildings, facilities, and surrounding grounds. The position ensures that the physical environment remains clean, safe, and functional to support daily operations and public use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting.
- Assist with maintaining all facilities and grounds, equipment and systems, keeping them in proper working order and repairing them when necessary.
- Assist with landscaping duties such as mowing, trimming, planting, and seasonal upkeep.
- Support facility cleanliness by sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing windows, removing trash, and cleaning restrooms.
- Set up and break down furniture and equipment for meetings, events, or daily use.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings and grounds to identify repair needs or safety hazards.
- Assist with snow and ice removal, salting walkways, and clearing pathways during winter.
- Respond to maintenance requests or emergencies promptly and professionally.
- Assist with monitoring inventory levels of maintenance and custodial supplies and informing the coordinator of items needed.
- Follow safety protocols and report any incidents or risks to management.
- Support special projects or renovations under the supervision of the Manager.
- Assist in preparing and coordinating with management and employees for fire, tornado, weather, and similar facilities security events and testing.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned, including on call for facility security and weather-related events.
Education, Knowledge & Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Trades certification, apprentice program, or 1 year of similar experience in HVAC, electrical, small engine repair, or specialized vendor equipment maintenance and repair are preferred.
- Basic knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
- 1–2 years of experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, or a related field.

Work Conditions
- Requires physical exertion such as extended standing, sitting, walking, weight-bearing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
- Average agility and dexterity of hands, fingers, joints, legs, and limbs to operate computers, lawn mowers, hand and power tools, and similar components.
- Work conditions include standing, lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, and indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Will require night, weekend, or off shift work as needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle for occasional local travel for deliveries and supplies.
- Occasionally lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to climb and work on ladders or scaffolding.
Work Environment
- Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions, including but not limited to noise, variations in weather, or light industrial settings.
Pay: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour
