Duties
- Prepare and submit dental insurance claims using billing software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Review patient records and medical documentation to accurately code procedures and diagnoses, applying medical terminology and coding best practices.
- Follow up on outstanding claims, process denials, and initiate appeals to maximize reimbursement from health insurance providers.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility before procedures are performed to prevent billing errors.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, medical records, and correspondence related to claims management.
- Collaborate with dental staff to ensure all procedures are properly documented for billing purposes.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries regarding billing statements, payment options, and insurance claims in a professional manner.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing within a dental or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare claims management processes, including familiarity with medical collection procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for record keeping and reporting tasks.
- Experience using billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and healthcare claims management tools is essential.
- Familiarity with medical coding standards including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, DRG classifications, and ICD coding practices.
- Understanding of health insurance policies, medical terminology, and medical records management is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
