GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Fleet Safety Supervisor is responsible for safety training, safety audits, and safety analysis for the Dollar General Dedicated Fleet. Safety Supervisor must know DOT, FMCSA, and CSA rules and regulations to ensure Dollar General is compliant and meet all federal, state, and local requirements. Safety Supervisor is accountable for working with our third-party compliance company to ensure driver files are updated and compliant with all regulations. Duties and responsibilities assigned may slightly differ based on role functions.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Safety Supervisor may be responsible for new driver safety orientation, home‑site readiness and Job Skills Training evaluation reviews, safety ride‑alongs, accident reviews, remedial safety training, and post‑accident BAT or drug testing.
Additional duties may include reviewing, resolving, and coaching drivers on video based safety events captured through in‑cab technology.

Lead the accident review process, including post-incident counseling and follow-up.
Recommend, document, and monitor corrective actions related to accidents, safety events, audits, investigations, and performance concerns, with escalation to leadership as appropriate.
Implement and conduct SMITH System and Close Quarter Maneuvering (CQM) Training.
Responsible for overseeing or conducting remedial road test based on DOT guidelines.

Accountable for building strong relationships with drivers, maintenance, and operations, HR and compliance teams through daily interactions and regular safety meetings.
Conducts regular lot and compliance gate checks of tractor equipment and driver requirements in relation to FMCSA regulations.

Promotes a culture of safety by evaluating the safety performance of all drivers and identifying training needs.
Support safety technology platforms, including in-cab camera systems, telematics, event management software, and reporting tools used to identify risk and improve driver performance.

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, and Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) Program

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions

Must understand paper and electronic logs, Hours of Service, and SMITH System

Strong written, oral, and presentation skills

Ability to work independently and be detail-oriented

Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment

Microsoft Office skills
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

Commercial Motor Vehicle driving experience preferred

Two years transportation safety experience

High School graduate or equivalent experience

Public speaking and/or adult education experience

At least two years safety training experience with a medium to large transportation company
