American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery / Mother Baby position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to circulate C-sections.

Acute care hospital setting, L&D/Mother Baby unit with 4 labor beds, 4 postpartum beds, and 8-crib nursery capacity

Unit sees approximately 350 births per year (25–30/month); patient population includes gestational ages from 20 weeks and up, including mag, insulin, pitocin, multiples, VBACs, and emergency situations

Standard L&D ratios of 1:1 for laboring patients and 1:4 for postpartum couplets

OB Techs are available 8am–4pm (2 techs) and 4pm–midnight (1 tech); no OB Tech coverage midnight–7am
-
Primary charting system is TruBridge Evident; unit also uses Epic EMR
-
Centricity FHM System used for fetal heart monitoring
-
12-hour day shifts (0645–1915); unit staffs typically 4 RNs during the day and 3–4 at night
-
Minimum of 2 weekends per month required; weekends are defined as Fri/Sat nights and Sat/Sun days
-
On-call placement is possible due to low or high census and may occur rarely or weekly
-
Scrubs are provided by the facility

Occasional float to MedSurg or ER as helping hands if experienced and comfortable; travelers are kept 'clean' in case of incoming deliveries

Telemetry capability available on unit, but travelers are not required to read or interpret strips — CCU reads strips
-
Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7; pharmacy closes at 5:30pm with after-hours access via Pyxis

No IV team on unit, but a PICC Nurse is available

Charge nurse role is filled by permanent staff only; travelers do not serve as charge nurses

Holiday coverage is worked into the permanent staff holiday rotation

Active WV or Compact RN license required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)

Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required

Ability to circulate C-sections is required, as staff nurses may need to circulate if the OR team has not yet arrived

COVID vaccination required (2-dose Moderna or Pfizer, or single-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review

A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Two professional references required: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference; if permanently employed within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility

Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts with a preceptor, conducted primarily on the unit

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying

Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required

Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time

First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible; prior L&D travel or strong staff experience is expected given the unit's requirements
