Education – associate's degree required; bachelor's in nursing degree preferred
Experience – Two (2) years' experience in the field of Public Health Nursing or documented Public Health education.
Licenses & Certification - Current Registered Nurse license from Oklahoma Board of Nursing and CPR certification required.
Knowledge & Skills –
The purpose of the position is to provide multiple aspects of quality public health nursing care through community outreach efforts to prevent disease and to promote wellness within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation service area. Public Health Nurses provide and coordinate advanced patient care and provide detailed education to the public about many illnesses and health conditions.
Work is performed in a variety of settings: homes, schools, health centers, community centers, and agencies. Work involves vehicle operation in isolated rural areas, on unimproved roads and in heavily congested traffic areas. There is possible exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested or required.
Work driving a vehicle in all types of weather and on all types of roads. Must physically be able to walk, climb, and go over rough terrain and up and down stairs at homes, schools or community facilities. Incumbent must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics in lifting, carrying, bending, stretching, etc. in the delivery of PHN services.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Serving patients by visiting homes, determining patient and family needs, developing heath care plans, providing nursing services and treatments, and referring patients to other services as needed.
Providing health information and education on maternal/child health, prenatal/postpartum health, breastfeeding health, immunizations, emergency preparedness and other public health topics.
Safeguarding health of children by providing well child exams, participating in child health education and school health, providing group instruction for parents and conducting immunization education.
Coordinate services between private, city, county, state, tribal or other agencies to meet patient’s health needs.
Completion of appropriate competencies to include but not limited to immunizations and vaccine management, emergency preparedness, well child exams, etc.
