JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Community Integration Mentor
Location: Los Angeles, CA Schedule: 30 Hours Weekly Contract Rate: $20–$23/hour
Supporting Social Growth, Confidence, and Meaningful Community Participation
The Community Integration Mentor supports adults with developmental disabilities as they build communication skills, emotional awareness, independence, and positive social connections. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on guidance, uplifting interactions, and helping participants thrive in community settings.
Position Overview
In this role, you will guide participants through daily activities that strengthen social interaction, communication, self-expression, and relationship-building. You will model positive behaviors, encourage healthy routines, and create opportunities for participants to connect with peers, explore interests, and build confidence in real-world environments. You will also advocate for participants’ needs and ensure they have access to supportive accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead participants through community outings, group activities, and social experiences
- Support communication development, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions
- Reinforce daily living habits such as hygiene, punctuality, and teamwork
- Provide individualized coaching, encouragement, and advocacy
- Maintain full visual and physical engagement with assigned participants
- Facilitate activities that promote confidence, creativity, and social exploration
- Complete all required documentation accurately and on time
Qualifications
- Transportation: Reliable vehicle, valid insurance, and clean driving record (no DUIs or multiple moving violations). Mileage reimbursed.
- Experience: Prior experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities in a structured setting.
- Technology: Comfortable using smartphones for documentation and communication.
- Communication: Skilled in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and supportive redirection.
- Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, patient, and approachable demeanor.
- Engagement Skills: Ability to create fun, interactive, and socially enriching experiences.
- Professionalism: Maintains confidentiality and follows all organizational policies.
- Physical Requirements: Able to stand and walk for several hours during the shift.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Training: Guide participants to master job tasks and develop social skills using structured intervention techniques.
Personal Growth: Encourage community engagement, build social skills, and help individuals explore new interests. Program participants enjoy various group activities, fostering connections, building confidence, while nurturing their unique talents in a supportive environment.
Assessment & Advocacy: Provide related assessment based on program participants interests, counseling, advocacy, and other services needed to build social interaction skills.
Participant Engagement: Maintain 100% visual & appropriate proximity with assigned program participants at all times.
Documentation & Compliance: Following up to confirm all required documentation is completed accurately and submitted by the designated due date.
Qualifications:
Reliable Transportation & Insurance: Must have transportation to transport participants, car insurance and a clean driving record (No DUI’s or multiple moving violations). Mileage reimbursed for travel time.
Work Experience: Have work experience working with adults with developmental disabilities in a structured setting.
Communication Skills: Demonstrates conflict resolution and behavioral management skills, effectively de-escalating negative behaviors while fostering solution-oriented outcomes.
Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality of all clients, employees, and organizational information in compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
Friendly Outlook: Must possess a positive and approachable demeanor, fostering a welcoming environment for participants.
Performance Skills: Ability to multi-task, create engaging, interactive and socially enriching experiences.
Job-Related Skills: Ensure that participants improve their hygiene, grooming, and socialization skills. Offer guidance and support to strengthen these daily habits and encourage positive interactions.
Feedback & Direction: Ability to accept and give feedback and direction during supervision.
Performance Monitoring: Continually evaluate and monitor participants' performance and progress.
Physical Stamina: Must be able to stand and walk around the assigned worksite for several hours during the daily work shift.
Flexibility: This position requires patience, adaptability and a commitment to participant well-being.
Smartphone Skills: Must be proficient in smartphone use for documentation, communication, and timekeeping.
