Under limited supervision, performs phlebotomy, processes specimens, handles client inquiries, conducts waived testing, contributes to pre-analytic laboratory tasks and assists with bedside procedures.
Schedule: Night shift - Monday thru Friday 8:00pm-4:30am plus every other weekend and every other major holiday

Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients.

Ensure patient comfort and safety during the phlebotomy process.

Receive and accession specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS).

Prepare and aliquot specimens for various laboratory tests following established protocols.

Provide information regarding specimen collection, test requisitions, and laboratory procedures.

Address inquiries and concerns, escalating complex issues to the appropriate personnel.

Assist in the preparation and setup of laboratory equipment and instruments.

Ensure the proper handling and transportation of specimens within the laboratory.

Places orders, inventories supplies, equipment and requisitions as needed.

Provides in-service training and precepts lab assistants and phlebotomists.

Participates in developing best practices in clinical workflows.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to work independently within established guidelines, apply problem-solving skills, meet deadlines and meet urgent patient, provider, and system needs

Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Ability to perform waived testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory guidelines.

Knowledge of recording and maintaining accurate documentation of waived test results.

Ability to verify the accuracy of patient information and specimen labeling.

Knowledge of labeling, documenting, and preparing collected specimens for transport to the laboratory.

Knowledge of relevant laboratory safety and infection control protocols.

Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) is an asset.
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED is required.
-
Completion of a certified phlebotomy program is preferred.
