Job Title: Territory Sales Manager
Reports to: Sales Director
Location: Houston, TX (and surrounding areas)
About the Job:
You'll own a territory out of our Houston branch. That means taking care of the customers already on the books and going out and finding new ones. Our reps are the face of QTS — you're in the shop, on the floor, talking to the people actually running the machines. You'll figure out what they need, get them the right tool, and make sure it shows up.
This is a relationship job. The best reps here know their customers' operations as well as their customers do.
What You'll Do:
Take care of your customers
- Call on assigned accounts on a set rotation — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on the account.
- Keep current customers happy while actively working on new business in your territory.
- Flag any problem a customer is having with QTS service to your manager and inside sales right away. Don't sit on it.
- Update account information as it changes — contacts, phone numbers, addresses.
- Help the accounts receivable team when they're working a past-due account in your territory.
Stay tied in with the office
- Email your weekly call report and sales plan to your Sales Directorby 8:00 AM Monday.
- Let inside sales know about inventory changes — new items to stock, levels that need to move up or down.
- Run consignment and inventory counts on schedule and get any count sheet changes to inside sales as soon as you have them.
Know the product
- Learn our major lines and know which ones matter in your territory.
- Stay on top of new products and be able to explain what they'll actually do for your customer.
- Promote and test new products in the field.
- Tell your sales manager when you need product or technical training. We'd rather train you than have you guess.
- Let management know when it's time to bring a manufacturer's rep out for a demo, a test, troubleshooting, or training.
Handle your business
- Keep your vehicle stocked with current catalogs and test/demo tooling.
- Submit expense reports monthly.
- Plan your week, keep your records straight, and hit your deadlines.
Above all: Take care of the customer the way you'd want to be taken care of.
What We're Looking For:
- Outside sales experience, preferably in industrial distribution, MRO, or cutting tools. We'll consider strong candidates from a shop background who want to move into sales.
- Working knowledge of machining, fabrication, or manufacturing — or the willingness to learn it fast.
- Familiarity with the Houston-area manufacturing and energy market is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Comfortable working on your own. Nobody's looking over your shoulder, and that cuts both ways.
- Organized enough to plan your week, keep your records straight, and hit your reporting deadlines.
- Able to handle sample tooling and demo equipment (occasional lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Basic computer skills — email, Excel, and our ERP system.
