Arenac Public Transit Authority (APTA) is looking for a dispatcher. Previous experience is preferred but not necessary. As a dispatcher you would be interacting with Arenac County residents and scheduling their rides while also communicating with drivers out in the field via radio. Because rides are scheduled through a computer-based dispatch software, proficient computer knowledge and skill is also required.
All staff are required to pass pre-employment background checks, drug and alcohol screening, along with random drug and alcohol screens throughout employment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage large amounts of incoming calls
- Gather detailed transportation request information with positivity.
- Build sustainable relationships with community through friendly interactive communication and actively listening.
- Communicate clearly details regarding scheduled rides, fees, and times.
- Accurate record keeping of customer feedback, positive and negative.
- Follow communication procedures, guidelines, and policies with customers and colleagues.
- Create a positive office environment with general public, community partners, and colleagues.
Skills:
- Computer competency
- Must be knowledgeable of Arenac County logistics; towns, villages, cities, road infrastructure
- Must be familiar with travel challenges related to a rural county.
- Familiarity with Excel; creating and updating spreadsheets.
- Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening.
- Ability to access multiple factors and determine an appropriate solution.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong decision making confidence.
- Compassionate understanding of varying staff roles and responsibilities.
- Familiarity with multiline phone system
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Practices excellent time management and work ethics.
- High school degree or equivalent
Specifics:
- Full Time, 6 a.m. - 1 p.m. / 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Most days some flexibility for special events.
- Rotating Saturdays (9-5)
- No holidays, or Sundays.
