Job Summary:
Medical Assistants bring patients to the room to be seen by their doctors. They take the patients’ medical history and record their vitals and prepare patients for the exam with their doctor. They also assist the patient during the examination if requested.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Take medical histories and record vital signs.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients.
- Prepare patients for examination.
- Assist the physician during the examination.
- Authorize drug refills.
- Arrange examining room instruments and equipment.
- Purchase and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean.
- Must maintain patient confidentiality and privacy per current HIPAA regulations.
- Must be able to establish rapport with patients easily and be customer service focused.
- Needs to be able to communicate so as to reduce anxieties, providing explanations of treatment and answering questions for a variety of patients.
- Assists patients and physicians by escorting patients from lobby to exam rooms, obtaining vital signs, getting medication list and preparing patients for examination.
- Obtains diagnostic data by performing point of care testing/treatments such as EKGs, and pulse oximetry.
- Performs clerical duties such as checking patients in and out, filling out disability forms, managing charts and obtaining physician signatures.
- Complies with federal, state, local, and professional requirements to keep licensing in good standing and by advising management of needed updates.
- Performs EECP once trained.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Prepares, cleans, and stocks exam rooms in the morning and after each exam.
- Coordinates communications by facilitating telephone communications for physicians, insurance companies and others.

Education and Experience:
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must meet the requirements of a credentialed Medical or Nursing Assistant or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
- Must have BLS certification from American Heart Association
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Background check required (includes credit, justice, worker’s comp and drug test)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist with adult patient in emergencies as needed
- Lifting requirements do not exceed 25 pounds
Tools/Equipment Used:
- 12 lead EKG, cardiac monitor/defibrillator, stethoscope, point of care testing equipment, basic
computer knowledge, pulse oximetry, etc.
Hours a Week: 40 hours a week
Compensation: $19.50-$24.00 per hour depending on experience and education
