Permit Technician II
What you’ll be doing
The Permit Technician receives processes and or coordinates the processing of forms, permits, correspondence, other assorted reports, and documents, which includes retention of documents when applicable. Responds to inquiries and provides information and technical assistance to internal and external customers, advising on applicable codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
What you need to know
- Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Full Time - 40 hours per week
- Temporary (3–12-month Assignment)

You will be responsible for…
- Research, reviews, and interprets applications, codes, ordinances, plans, construction documents, drawings and providing information, recommendations, technical and administrative support of applications and project review process.
- Conducts quality control (QC) reviews to assure completeness of submitted plans.
- Reviews permit fees for accuracy prior to permit issuance.
- Acts as the record retention specialist for the division. Processes responses to customers regarding public records request.
- Performs minor plan reviews (patio covers, misc. residential trades, etc.).
- Responds to minor plan review questions.
- Other duties as assigned.
What skills & experience you’ll bring to us
- High School Diploma or GED
- Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to at least one year (2+ years preferred) of work experience involving extensive in-person customer contact.
- ICC (or equivalent) Permit Technician Certification, desirable
- Experience with Accela building permit tracking software, preferred.
- Experience interpreting requirements to determine compliance of construction document submittal and basic construction terminology.
- Experience with application and interpretation of federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinances
- Effective communication skills both verbally and written.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities at one time.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills, desirable
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
