Must-Haves:
- 2+ years of vehicle development, integration, or testing experience
- 5+ years of experience in the heavy-duty truck industry
- 3+ years of Functional Safety Engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and its application
- Experience creating and executing Functional Safety test plans
- Familiarity with CAN communication and J1939 protocols
- Experience performing FMEA, Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis
- Strong communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Plusses:
- Functional Safety Engineering Certification
- Knowledge of Class 5–8 diesel and electric vehicles
- MS/MEng in a technical field
- ISTQB Foundation certification
- Prior truck operations experience
Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation, execution, and tracking of Functional Safety test plans
- Translate functional requirements into safety validation test cases
- Facilitate safety and risk analyses including FMEA, Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis
- Coordinate validation efforts across global and cross-divisional teams
- Develop and improve Functional Safety testing methodologies
- Present findings and document testing processes and results
- Support validation activities for PACCAR's AVP program through integration, verification, and validation phases
- Drive alignment to critical program milestones leading toward limited quantity release by CY2028
Description:
PACCAR is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to support the Reliability Engineering team at the PACCAR Technical Center in Mount Vernon, WA. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AVP) program by leading Functional Safety validation activities, creating comprehensive test plans, and coordinating efforts across global engineering teams. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of ISO 26262, heavy-duty vehicle systems, safety analysis methodologies, and validation testing. This role is essential to scaling Functional Safety capabilities needed to achieve key program milestones and support a limited quantity release targeted for the end of 2028.
Pay: $60.00 - $75.00 per hour
