Position Summary
The Product Quality Engineer supports the Quality Management System by ensuring products, processes, and documentation comply with customer, regulatory, and company requirements. This position is heavily involved in day-to-day manufacturing and shop floor activities, providing hands-on support for receiving, in-process, and final inspections; nonconformance management; troubleshooting; problem-solving; and verification of product conformity throughout manufacturing, assembly, and test operations.
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Product Quality Engineer works closely with Production, Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, and customers to support quality planning, supplier quality activities, corrective actions, process improvements, and compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements. The role serves as a key liaison between quality and operations to ensure customer requirements are effectively implemented and product quality objectives are achieved.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Completed accredited training programs applicable to assigned tasks and supported by documented experience.
Experience Requirements
- Three (3) years’ experience in a Quality-related position within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 certified quality management system.
- Gas turbine, power generation, and/or rotating equipment experience is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical background with knowledge of mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, and inspection methods.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in tracking, analyzing, and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality performance.
- Support quality planning and compliance by integrating AS9100 and customer-specific requirements into quality plans, inspections, and process controls.
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections, including dimensional verification using precision measurement equipment and FARO technology, ensuring product conformity and supporting continuous improvement of inspection processes.
- Identify, document, segregate, and support disposition of nonconforming products and processes to prevent unintended use or delivery.
- Initiate, recommend, and support actions to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities related to products, processes, and the Quality Management System, including verification of implemented solutions as required.
- Support root cause analysis, corrective action, preventive action, and continuous improvement activities to improve product quality, process effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
- Support supplier quality management activities as needed, including supplier evaluations, Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), supplier audits, and supplier performance tracking.
- Participate in and support Material Review Board (MRB) activities to ensure timely disposition and closure of nonconformance reports (NCRs).
- Review material certifications, outside service provider certifications, inspection records, and other quality documentation for compliance with purchase order, drawing, and customer requirements.
- Assist in calibration program oversight, including verification of measurement and test equipment status and identification of tooling needs.
- Conduct drawing and specification reviews, including GD&T requirements, to verify accuracy between 2D prints and 3D models and ensure tolerances are appropriate for manufacturing capabilities.
- Provide technical support for new products, new customers, process development, equipment selection, and qualification of processes and personnel.
- Support Return Material Authorization (RMA) activities and customer quality-related issues as needed.
- Represent customer requirements within internal functions and participate in cross-functional teams, customer and supplier visits, audits, and reviews to support quality objectives.
- Serve as backup to the Quality Manager for work order and purchase order reviews and approvals.
- Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities related to product, processes, and quality system.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their manager.

- Ability to read and interpret CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and dimensional inspection requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, forming, assembly, finishing, and inspection methods.
- Experience with multi-level bills of material (BOMs).
- Experience participating in and facilitating problem-solving activities using basic quality tools and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience using precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and portable CMM/FARO equipment.
- Proficiency in the Autodesk Design Suite, specifically Autodesk Inventor.
Work Environment
The incumbent for this position must be able to perform the functions of this job requiring the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 25% sitting, 50% walking, and 25% standing.
Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments. The manufacturing environment may expose employees to temperature variations, noise, welding operations, grinding and cutting activities, moving machinery, overhead lifting devices, forklifts, compressed gases, electrical equipment, metal dust, fumes, sparks, sharp edges, and other industrial hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required based on assigned tasks and work areas.
Some travel may be required to supplier, customer, or installation sites for inspections, audits, field troubleshooting, or project support activities.
