Position Overview
Forefront Advisory is a year-round tax and accounting firm serving individuals, families, and closely held businesses. Our work goes beyond annual tax preparation. We help clients stay organized, make informed decisions, and approach their tax and financial lives with greater clarity.
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Clifton, NJ office. This position is designed for someone with a strong tax background, sound judgment, and the ability to work in a busy professional environment where accuracy, communication, and client service all matter.
The ideal candidate will have experience preparing both individual and business tax returns. Bookkeeping experience is a plus. The ability to support business clients from bookkeeping through tax planning and compliance filings is a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting the firm’s tax and accounting work, including:
Preparing individual and business tax returns, including partnerships, S corporations, and corporations
Reviewing client documentation, identifying missing information, and maintaining organized workpapers
Communicating with clients to gather information and answer routine tax-related questions
Using Lacerte and Canopy to manage tax preparation, workflow, document collection, and client information
Supporting business clients with bookkeeping, payroll, tax planning, and compliance filings when appropriate
Helping the firm manage deadlines during tax season and extension season
Collaborating with firm leadership and other team members to ensure client work is completed accurately and efficiently
Identifying clients who may benefit from financial planning or wealth management services and making appropriate introductions to the lead advisor at Forefront Wealth Planning
Required Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
4 to 7 years of experience in a busy tax or accounting environment
Experience preparing both individual and business tax returns
Strong working knowledge of federal and state tax preparation
Experience using Lacerte tax software
Experience using Canopy or a similar document management and workflow system
Bookkeeping experience, with the ability to support business clients from bookkeeping through tax planning and compliance filings, is a plus
Comfort communicating directly with clients
Strong attention to detail
The ability to manage multiple deadlines during high-volume periods
Good written and verbal communication skills
A professional, team-oriented approach
The ability to work independently after learning firm processes
CPA or EA designation is helpful but not required
Schedule and Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in our Clifton, NJ office.
The position requires in-office work during the firm’s busiest filing periods:
January through April 15
September 1 through October 15
Remote work during the off-season may be available over time based on performance, workflow, and firm needs.
Forefront Advisory also offers flexible summer hours when workflow allows. We recognize the demands of tax season and believe the slower parts of the year should provide more balance when possible.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 per year, based on experience and expertise.
Additional income opportunities may be available through appropriate introductions to Forefront Wealth Planning.
