Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) – Highway Department
The Town of Pleasant Valley Highway Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Motor Equipment Operator (MEO). This is a full-time position responsible for operating semi-heavy highway equipment in support of the Town's road maintenance and snow removal operations.
The primary responsibility of this position is operating 6-wheel and 10-wheel dump trucks equipped with plows, sanders, and related equipment. The successful candidate will also assist with roadway maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate 6-wheel and 10-wheel dump trucks for highway maintenance and snow removal.
- Safely operate equipment equipped with plows, sanders, and salters during winter weather events.
- Operate other semi-heavy equipment as needed.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Complete daily vehicle inspection and maintenance checklists.
- Identify and report mechanical issues or equipment deficiencies.
- Assist with road maintenance activities, including repairs and other public works projects.
- Maintain equipment in a safe and operational condition.
- Adjust work hours as needed to respond to snow, ice, storms, and other emergency weather events.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement.
- Ability to safely operate a Road Ranger (manual) transmission.
- Experience operating semi-heavy construction or highway equipment.
- Excellent driving skills and a strong commitment to safety.
- Residency within 30 minutes of Pleasant Valley, New York.
Work Schedule
Regular Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Summer Schedule
- Monday through Thursday
- 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
This is a 40-hour per week position. Employees must be available to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for snow and ice control, emergency response, and other Highway Department operations.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $25.15 per hour
