Responsibilities
- Provide empathetic peer support to individuals experiencing mental health conditions and substance use issues, utilizing your lived experience to foster trust and engagement.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies through motivational interviewing, harm reduction techniques, and behavioral health interventions.
- Conduct crisis intervention and crisis management when urgent situations arise, ensuring safety and stabilization for clients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, share insights from peer perspectives, and support client-centered goals.
- Document interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards.
- Mentor clients through recovery processes, offering guidance on addiction counseling, social work resources, and community integration.
- Promote wellness by applying harm reduction principles and behavioral health best practices during support sessions.
Experience
- Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use recovery is essential; previous peer support or behavioral health work is highly valued.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention and crisis management in fast-paced or high-stakes environments.
- Knowledge of behavioral health topics including addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and working with individuals with co-occurring disorders.
- Familiarity with social work principles, harm reduction strategies, and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Experience working with diverse populations facing mental health challenges; ability to build rapport and provide nonjudgmental support.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and communication purposes.
