Special Education Teacher/Intervention Specialist (K–8)
Location: Legacy Academy of Excellence (Columbus Campus)
Reports to: Building Principal
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Intervention Specialist is to provide targeted academic and behavioral support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities. The Intervention Specialist works closely with general education teachers, families, and service providers to ensure students receive the necessary accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction. Through individualized interventions and evidence-based strategies, the specialist supports students in achieving their academic and personal growth goals.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple individualized plans and deadlines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially in communicating with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Mastery of academic intervention techniques, IEP implementation, and behavior management strategies
- 1–5 years of special education or intervention experience preferred
- Valid Ohio State Intervention Specialist License (required) or active application for appropriate licensure
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (required); Master’s degree in Special Education preferred
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students in individual and small-group settings aligned with IEP goals and grade-level standards
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt lessons and ensure access to the curriculum for all learners
- Design and implement differentiated instructional strategies and interventions based on student data
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Administer and analyze assessments to evaluate student progress and guide instructional planning
- Support students’ social-emotional development through targeted behavior interventions and supports
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, progress reports, and compliance records
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance instructional practices and stay current on special education law and strategies
- Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment that promotes high expectations for all students
- Uphold and model school policies, core values, and a strict code of conduct
- Communicate regularly with families, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and needs
- Participate in school-wide functions, including occasional after-school and evening events
- Perform other duties as assigned
