We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) care to join our dynamic healthcare team. Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications accurately via injection or IV infusion, monitor responses, and adjust treatments as prescribed.
- Manage acute pain and assist with complex procedures such as catheterization, suturing, and ventilator management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with hospital protocols and patient needs.
- Ensure aseptic techniques are maintained during all invasive procedures to prevent infection.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, processing, and interpretation of results.
- Provide critical care support in emergency situations, including airway management and trauma response within Level I or Level II trauma center settings.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies.
- Support discharge planning by educating patients and families on post-hospital care, medication administration, and follow-up requirements.
- Maintain proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
Skills
- Proven experience working in hospital settings with expertise in medical-surgical nursing and critical care environments.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to adult patient care.
- Familiarity with advanced clinical procedures including cardiac catheterization, dialysis management, neurovascular assessments (CT), and trauma medicine.
- Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for efficient documentation.
- Excellent patient assessment skills coupled with the ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition promptly.
- Ability to perform IV insertion, venipuncture (phlebotomy), and catheter care competently.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams and education of patients/families.
- Flexibility to work night shifts and rotating schedules while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and compliance standards such as NCQA standards.
